Create an abacus classroom, to teach and manage your students!

  • Ms.Watson's Classroom at Sakura Gakuen
Private Group Abacus Classrooms 8 Members
Sakura Gakuen provides a Japanese environment where your child will be immersed in the language and culture of Japan, through academic instruction, songs, traditional games, and crafts. Non-Japanese children will also find it to be a fun way to learn about a different culture, begin to develop their own foreign language skills, and make new friends along the way. Our curriculum is not simply an enrichment program. Nor is it just intensive language training. Elements of Japanese culture and games will also be introduced to help students gain a better understanding of the langauge and have fun while learning.

An innovative Abacus Math Program, an on-going after-school enrichment class at CCJDS. We teach elementary school children how to master arithmetics through the use of a Japanese style abacus. The abacus is used throughout Asia to teach elementary school children mathematics. Students K-3 enter a 16 level program designed to teach children basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division) through large number manipulations, decimals, negative numbers, and square roots. Students learn math by moving the Abacus beads, engaging some of the creative brain functions not usually associated with logical math calculations. By focusing on a limited set of bead movements, students can quickly gain speed and accuracy independent of the size of the numbers being manipulated. Students are also taught to visualize the bead movements in their head which enables students to do the same calculations in their mind, without the physical abacus. In class we use games, quizzes, and engaging challenges to help kids attain results that self-motivate them to want to learn more. At home students use our online platform which has practice drills, tutorial videos, and problem solvers as well as statistics and progress reports to help parents understand how their child is progressing. For best results we suggest 5 to 10 minutes of daily practice at home. Having taught this program to our own kids, we see this learning process as a parent-child joint venture, with great rewards for both. Kids learn math with a deeper understanding of numbers, sustained and more focused concentration, increased mental calculation and capacity, and importance of structured practice. Whereas parents that recognize the importance of mathematics as a lifelong skill will have the joy of watching their child succeed in math and enjoy the process. Hence, we welcome parents to join our classroom, whenever possible, and engage with your child as they embark on this exciting math journey. Our job is to provide parents and students all the tools necessary to succeed in mastering mathematics.
